At The Beauty Pawlor, the safety and comfort of your pet is of the utmost important to us. In addition to the use of 24-hour video surveillance, which not only holds us accountable but allows us to review operations and improve our procedure should there ever be an issue, we take care to minimize risk with the following safety measures:
1. We maintain safety certification with the American Kennel Club, which must be reviewed and renewed yearly.
2. We hand-dry all pets by default. We have kennel dryers available for pets who are prone to seizures or other conditions that preclude the use of a hand dryer. These dryers are fans that use room-temperature air to dry pets in a quiet, low-impact manner in a spacious veterinarian-style kennel. The kennels are located within six feet of the grooming table so that pets inside are within the groomer's view at all times. Dryers are on a 15-minute timer.
3. Brachycephalic pets or pets with respiratory conditions will not be kennel-dried.
4. Pets have access to water and are allowed potty breaks during extended visits.
5. We have set procedures for handling medical emergencies and environmental disaster. We maintain yearly certification in Pet First Aid and CPR.
6. We have indoor barriers in addition to the entrance/exit door in order to prevent escape from our salon.
7. We do not use force to make pets submit to procedures or handling with which they are not comfortable. We are certified in Low-Stress Handling, Restraint, and Behavior Modification to use positive reinforcement and cooperative care to reduce fear and anxiety during the grooming process.
8. Though appointments are booked on a one-on-one basis, we have multiple groomers. Waiting pets are safely and comfortably contained to prevent interaction with strange pets.
9. We keep record of your pet's individual needs and medical status so that we may adjust our procedure as needed.
10. We are certified in Salon Sanitation. All tools, tables, kennels, and equipment are disinfected between each dog, toothbrushes are given to the pet owner or disposed of after use, and the salon is fully cleaned and disinfected at the end of every day.
11. Like most pet-related industries, grooming is not regulated at the federal or state level. We are proud to self-regulate through reputable organizations such as the American Red Cross, the American Kennel Club, the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, and other bodies that set forth formal policies and procedures. We rigorously pursue continued education in all areas related to the field, from safety to technical skill, from behavior to skin science and coat care.
